2011 Orientation and Organizational Session Information

2010 Organizational Session Agenda

Section 7 of Article IV of the Constitution of North Dakota requires the Legislative Assembly to meet in December following the November general election for organizational and orientation purposes as provided by law. Under Section 54-03.1-03, the agenda for the organizational session is to include orientation classes on legislative rules and procedure, presentation of reports by legislative interim committees, party caucuses to review proposed legislative rules and committee assignments, presentation of the budget and revenue proposals recommended by the Governor, and other matters so that the Legislative Assembly is ready to begin its business by the first day of the regular session.

2011 Legislative Drafting Seminar

Drafting seminar sponsored by the Legislative Council staff. The seminar is a three-hour course, usually given in September or October immediately preceding a legislative session. Individuals who will be drafting bills, resolutions, or amendments are encouraged to attend this seminar.

Orientation and Training Sessions for Legislative Employees

Classes are provided for legislative employees who use information technology programs in performing their duties during a legislative session. Training ranges from one-half day to one week, beginning in November and continuing into the legislative session.

Training for Legislators

Information technology classes for legislators. Classes will range from refresher sessions during the legislative organizational session, to computer introduction sessions for new legislators, to courses for all legislators on the Legislator's Automated Work Station (LAWS) system. LAWS is the system used to provide legislative-related information to legislators on their personal notebook computers.
