In 2002 a special election was held in District 22 to fill the remainder of a term. As a result of legislative redistricting, in 2002 there was an election for the senator in District 26 for a two-year term. The 24 senators from odd-numbered districts were elected to four-year terms at the November 2002 general election. There are 11 Senate standing committees, one joint committtee, and 7 Senate procedural committees that closely parallel the House of Representatives with respect to name and subject matter jurisdiction.
