1999 North Dakota Senate
The Senate consists of 49 senators. One senator is elected from each of 49 senatorial districts. The 24 senators from even-numbered districts were elected to four-year terms at the November 1996 general election. The 25 senators from odd-numbered districts were elected to four-year terms at the November 1998 general election. (The Senate vacancy in District 44 was filled at the 1998 general election.) There are 11 Senate standing committees and 7 Senate procedural committees that closely parallel the House of Representatives with respect to name and subject matter jurisdiction.
