SENIOR CITIZENS' MILL LEVY MATCH FUNDING

At the December 16-17, 1997, Budget Committee on Long-Term Care meeting, a request was made for the Legislative Council staff to provide the committee with a spreadsheet showing senior citizens' mill levy match funding disbursements for the 1995-97 biennium and for the 1997-99 biennium to date.

North Dakota Century Code Section 57-15-56 provides that the Department of Human Services is to disburse the senior citizens' mill levy match funding grants to eligible counties or cities on or before March first of each year. The section provides that no grant may be made to any county or city which has not filed a written report verifying that grant funds received in the previous year were used for allowable purposes. The section also provides that allowable purposes include establishing or maintaining services and programs for senior citizens, including the maintenance of existing senior citizen centers which will provide informational, health, welfare, counseling, and referral services for senior citizens, and assisting such persons in providing volunteer community or civic services.
